An Alternative Weekend in London

London

While York and Edinburgh are high on the list of destinations for alternative individuals, London seems to steal the crown when it comes to days out with a difference.

Whether you are planning a weekend away with your mates, an off-the-wall hen do, or a scare-fest stag, before you begin to look at attractions and activities, ensure that there is a central London budget hotel available for your preferred dates.

Travelodge’s Euston hotel is in an excellent location for exploring the sites of the city. On the doorstep of Euston train and tube stations, the hotel is a convenient base for anyone travelling into the city from across the UK.

The underground links from Euston connect directly onto the Northern Line service, which runs through some of the most visited spots in the city. This includes Covent Garden, Leicester Square and Tottenham Court Road.

First and foremost, check your calendar for the 26 November. As if you didn’t already know, or haven’t already got tickets, the Twins of Evil’ tour takes to the 02 Arena. Expect the unexpected – Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson are about to entertain you like you’ve never been entertained before.

Whatever the weather, be sure to pay a visit to The Icecreamists at Covent Garden. Celebrating all things ice-cream and Sex Pistols, this daring joint sells some of the best soft scoop out there.

Enhanced with all sorts of amazingness from vodka to breast milk, this is definitely a must-do stop off for funky foodies. Expect this black stone build to be brimming with neon and plenty of PVC work attire.

While you’re hovering around the cobbles of Covent Garden, why not pop into Cyber Candy. This retro American sweetie store was an absolute online phenomenon which is what led to the company opening four stores in the capital, and two others in Brighton and Birmingham.

Head here for some nostalgia inducing nibbles and niceties including PEZ, Nerds, Lucky Charms and lots of Wonka treats. Although, if you don’t quite make it to their flagship store on Garrick Street, there’s no doubt you’ll be able to pop by the Camden High Street shop.

Of course, when it comes to shopping and all things alternative, Camden is an obvious are of London to explore. Rock, punk, vintage, whatever you’re into – Camden markets has an array of items on offer to suit your style.

Not limited to fashion and textiles, Camden is the home of weird and wonderful living items, gifts, music and more.

There are a number of alternative pubs and bars in London, including The Cro Bar and The Intrepid Fox. If you are travelling with a large group, The Medieval Banquet at the Tower of London is a night out not to be missed.

Enjoy some authentic, laugh-a-minute medieval banter, complete with ‘Henry VIII and his court of knights, troubadours, contortionists, magicians, jugglers, minstrels and medieval tumblers’ – not to mention the dancing wenches!
